What is the Best Vacuum Cleaner for Pet Hair Removal?
Dyson Animal Upright Vacuum Review
Pet owners report that the Dyson certainly picks up more pet hair and other debris than the average vacuum. When vacuuming on the hardwood floors, our other vacuums tend to blow the pet hair and other debris away from the vacuum. The Dyson does not do this nearly as much. Usually it pulls the hair towards the vacuum.
What does Consumer Reports have to say about Dyson Animal vacuum cleaners? Consumer Reports has the Dyson DC28 Animal on its best bagless upright list. The DC28 is the upgrade version of the DC14, but does not have the ball.
The Redesigned Dyson DC41 Ball Animal – What’s the difference? This redesigned version of the Animal has the ball for better maneuverability and a better design for emptying the canister.
Is the price worth it? The price is steep, but many reviewers say their Dyson last for many years, making this vacuum a bargain. If the price is just too much for you, you can find older refurbished Dyson Animal models at about half the price on Amazon and eBay. Dyson vacuums do come with a 5-year warranty.
There is one major con with the older Dyson DC14. Its suction is too strong for lightweight rugs. It sucks up the rug and then just stops working. You have to learn how to maneuver the Dyson on the lightweight area rugs to avoid the horrid noise it makes when it gets stuck on the rug. The newer DC41 model self-adjusts to the height of the carpet or hardwood floor.
The Miele Cat and Dog vacuum cleaner may be Dyson’s best competitor that you’ve never heard of. Miele doesn’t invest in mainstream advertising as Dyson does, but instead relies on old fashioned word of mouth. And the reviews from Miele Cat and Dog vacuum owners do make this a strong competitor to the Dyson.
Miele vs Dyson: Customers familiar with both the Dyson and Miele say that the Miele actually maneuvers better than the Dyson. Also, the Miele vacuums are known for being quiet (important if you have a dog or cat terrified of the vacuum), and flexible enough to vacuum under low objects. And Consumer Reports has given the Miele 7210 Twist upright vacuum cleaner a nod for being “excellent for pets, carpets, and wood floors.”
The biggest difference between the Miele and Dyson is the debris containment. The Miele requires bags, which can be a plus if you don’t like flying dust when emptying a vacuum canister, but you will have to keep buying bags adding to the cost of using the Miele.
Price of a Miele: The Miele Cat and Dog vacuum cleaner is pricier than the Dyson, which can easily be a deciding factor. However, it does come with a 7-year motor warranty and is also also known to last for several years.
So What is the Best Vacuum Cleaner for Pet Hair Removal?
The Dyson and Miele both rank high with both customers and consumer groups as the two best vacuums for pet hair removal. If you are hesitant to spend the money, check the return policy before buying. Usually you will have 30 days to try out the vacuum cleaner to decide if you find the expense worth it.
